The other section of this site (Totalhealthmatters/Philosophy) outlines some of his ideas for a better NHS based on a philosophy of health promotion rather than the traditional focus on pathology and negative health.

Moat osteopaths has now been up and running for 18 months. I would like to thank all patients for the kind referrals that are making this a success.  Over this last year I have been involved heavily with professional development and have undertaken a postgraduate in Classical Osteopathy. This is concerned with treating the causes behind many pathological conditions.  As a result I am seeing many more patients with complex problems in addition to the classic ‘back pain’ presentation, this focuses on treatment being a cure not just a palliative interference. I am also training with an eminent Cranial Osteopath in Brighton to further my functional skills. This is especially associated with many conditions ranging from colic & restlessness in babies to sinusitis, congestive colds & headaches in adults. I shall continue to offer a free advice service over the phone 07811 114 487, and emergency home visits where required in addition to my usual hours including a Saturday morning clinic.

Background

Qualified in Sports Massage for two years prior to obtaining his Osteopathy degree Matthew became interested in the treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries.During his four years of training at the European School of Osteopathy (ESO) he became interested in all aspects of the human body in health and sickness and the physical treatment of common and more obscure complaints. Matthew uses a variety of approaches to his work enabling him to tailor the treatment to the patient. Matthew is a fully qualified Osteopath and Advanced Sports Massage Therapist. He is registered and governed by the General Osteopathic Council for Osteopathy (GOsC), the Active Foundation for sports massage and is a member of the British Osteopathic Association (BOA).

Background

Yuko Nakamura studied in Tokyo as a Medical Shiatsu Practroitioner, was trained in acupuncture in London and is also a qualified Alexander Technique Teacher. With over 12 years experience in these healing arts, she has tried to follow the oriental tradituion of not just treating the illness but going deeper to the root causes. Yuko is a member of the British Acupuncture Council.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a system of healing which has been practised for thousands of years. Its aim is to improve the overall well being of the patient. rather than just treating the symptoms. According to traditional philosophy, our health is dependent on the body's motivating energy- Qi - moving smoothly and in a balanced way throughout the body. Fine needles are inserted into the energy channels to stimulate the body's own healing response to restore balance.

The Alexander Technique

The Alexander Technique teaches us how to use our bodies with minimum stress and maximum efficiency. It re-educates posture, increases our own awareness and helps the individual reduce the tensions derived from bad body poise and use. The effect being to restore a general condition of harmony and balance in the body. Once learned, the Alexander Techniques can be used throughout your life as an aid to better health.

The Buteyko Method

Did you know that carbon dioxide is not a "waste gas" we breathe out but essential for life?

There is no living thing on the planet that can survive without carbon dioxide and that includes us.

Our breathing is controlled by the level of carbon dioxide in our blood, if it is too high we breathe more to "wash out" the excess, if it is too low we breathe less to conserve it.

Many of us, and all asthmatics breathe too much causing our bodies to be "starved" of carbon dioxide. This leads to a multitude of ill effects including tightening of airways, reduced delivery of oxygen to the tissue, breathlessness, panic attacks, high blood pressure just to name a few. Check your breathing below. For more information visit or phone/e-mail Michael Lingard:
