Background

After 25 years as a practising osteopath and holistic health clinic manager I have come to realise that there is very little interest in the origin and nature of health. We have a National Health Service, which allocates minimal resources to "health", it is a disease prevention, management, and treatment service. I believe the time has come when a major shift must be made in our approach to healthcare... we must learn what health is about & how we can enhance it.The Osteopaths Act of 1993 was to be a landmark achievement for complementary medicine, giving osteopaths full recognition, however its implementation has caused a great injustice to many in the profession. After two years on the GOsC register I resigned from the organisation as I, along with over a thousand other osteopaths, were seriously concerned with the implementation and functioning of the GOsC. Since then I have been working with many other ex-osteopaths in the Democratic Osteopathic Council, DOC (www.docouncil.org) and a number of MPs who have been trying to rectify this problem. I am no longer able to call myself an osteopath as this title is restricted to members of GOsC only. After 30 years now in the profession I have expanded my interests to health promotion and regard myself now as a Professional Health Consultant or Orthopath with particular interest in the Buteyko Breathing Method. This Site

It is with the hope that a new awareness can be regenerated among individuals, health-carers and our leaders, that this public forum of "Totalhealthmatters!" has been conceived. This website was launched in December 2001 and has three main aims:

1. To provide a reading resource of all research, literature and published information on the nature, origin and enhancement of health.

2. To promote debate and exchange of ideas amongst visitors to the site, and

3. To put pressure on all providers of "Health Care" to begin the re-allocation of resources, to create a healthier society.

Unless Health is returned to the centre of our medicine and health care services we shall slide into pathological decline..

The Nation's Health has suffered from the practice of disease orientated medicine.

Health has been forgotten and side-tracked as secondary in medicine.
